Mysterious Fossil Ecosystem in Herkimer County

The Herkimer College Science Club will host Scott McKenzie from Mercyhurst University on Tuesday, March 11 at 12:30 p.m. in Johnson Hall 255. His talk will be entitled “Mysterious Fossil Ecosystem in Herkimer County.”

Assistant Professor of Geology, McKenzie is also Paleontology Director at Mercyhurst. McKenzie is affiliated with Lang’s Fossils in Ilion, NY. He curates one of the 10 largest private collections of meteorites and related materials in the world. Specimens from his collection are in the U.S. National Museum (Smithsonian Institution), Carnegie Museum, Buffalo Museum of Science, Cleveland Museum of Natural History, Museum of the Earth (Cornell University), Arizona State University (Tempe) as well as foreign institutions.

McKenzie has produced several publications, many in M.A.P.S. Digest, the official publication of the Mid-America Paleontology Society. He will be discussing the history of fossils found in Herkimer County and will have several fossil specimens on display.
