Non-Matriculated Online Student Instructions
After you have submitted your application for Non-Matriculated status at Herkimer College, it will take up to two business days for your application to be processed. Non-Matriculated (non- degree) students are automatically accepted. If there is an issue with your application, our Registrar’s Office will notify you.
Now here's what's next:
1. Register for Course(s)
Use Student Online Services (http://www.herkimer.edu/sos) to register. Log in instructions are included on the page. You must register for your course(s) before you can gain access to your online course(s).
Once logged into Student Online Services (SOS), remember to retrieve your Herkimer College assigned Student College ID Number – this is important, as this number should now be used as your User ID whenever you log into SOS.
When selecting courses, please note that Internet Academy online sections are designated with a "V" in the section number, and the Time and Location will be listed as TBA. The course start and end dates are listed. Students are expected to begin participating in the course on the first day of the term.

2. Take Care of Your Bill
After registering, you can then pay your bill online using Student Online Services (http://www.herkimer.edu/sos). All accounts must be settled in full prior to the billing due date to avoid additional fees and/or possible deregistration from the course(s). It is a requirement at all New York State Community Colleges that New York State Residents obtain a Certificate of Residence and provide it to the College no later than 30 days after classes start in order to avoid additional charges (certificates cannot be dated any earlier than 60 days before course begins). It is preferable for the Student Account's Office to receive the Certificate of Residence before classes start, however, if you are making a payment and do not have your certificate yet, you can subtract the Non-Resident Tuition charge from your bill. As long as a Certificate of Residence is on file within 30 days from the start of the term, “Tuition - No Residency" charges will be removed. Failure to provide a certificate within this timeframe will result in you having to pay additional charges.

3. Obtain Your Textbook(s)
Most Internet Academy courses require textbooks and materials. Some electronic Open Educational Resources (OER) textbook materials are being provided at no cost to students, but other textbook materials must be purchased. To insure that students obtain the correct packages and editions, we recommend that textbooks be purchased from the Herkimer College Bookstore at www.herkimer.edu/bookstore. (Review your Student Detail Schedule using Student Online Services (http://www.herkimer.edu/sos) and make note of your semester, course and section numbers prior access to ordering textbooks/materials. Be aware that some courses require materials that are specially packaged for Herkimer College and can only be purchased from the Herkimer College Bookstore)
4. Login to Generals Online and Begin Participating!
Internet Academy courses will meet online at https://herkimer.open.suny.edu. Generals Online accounts are created within one business day after registration and courses will be automatically added to student accounts when courses “Go Live” several days before the term begins. New students should complete the online Open SUNY Student Orientation provided prior to beginning your course(s) to build the skills necessary to effectively participate in online courses.
