Herkimer College to Host Presentation of Slavery in the Mohawk Valley

Herkimer College will host Travis Bowman and his presentation of Slavery in the Mohawk Valley on Tuesday, February 20 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Robert McLaughlin College Center, room 288.

Usually considered a "Southern" issue, slavery played a surprisingly large role in colonial and revolutionary era New York. Travis Bowman, Senior Curator with the New York State Bureau of Historic Sites, will examine how slavery evolved in New York under the Dutch, British, and American systems of government, and how the institution was utilized at a local and personal level in the Mohawk Valley.

This presentation is in observance of Black History Month and is sponsored by The Center for Student Leadership & Involvement. It is free and open to the public.
