Herkimer College to host Anne Phinney Presentation “The Importance of Time Unplugged: Reconnecting with Nature”

Anne Phinney

Herkimer College will host an Anne Phinney presentation titled “The Importance of Time Unplugged: Reconnecting with Nature” Saturday, September 29 at 2:30 p.m. in the Robert McLaughlin College Center, Room 288, as part of Fall Fest & Alumni Weekend. The program is free and open to the public.

“The Importance of Time Unplugged: Reconnecting with Nature” is meant to bring awareness and encourage self-reform. Anne Phinney is the author of Finding My Way to Moose River Farm, a memoir about a happy life spent with a variety of extraordinary creatures. Her second book, They Teach without Words; The Animals of Moose River Farm, is due out later this fall. A retired elementary/middle school teacher, Phinney has witnessed a decrease in children's ability to remain focused and engaged for long periods of time. Never has it been more urgent to provide children with opportunities to engage with animals, gardening, nature and activities that do not require computer technology. Adults also benefit from more time away from their electronic vices. Kids Farm Day, Equi-Reflection, and llama trekking are programs that Phinney has developed at her farm in the Adirondacks. With the assistance of horses, donkeys, llamas, goats, geese, chickens, dogs, tortoises and a pig, Moose River Farm transforms into a living classroom and spiritual space. Her mission is to kindle an appreciation and need for time spent outdoors.
