Herkimer College Relaunches Literary Magazine

The short stories, poems, and artwork of Herkimer College students, alumni, emeritus, and staff will be showcased in the relaunch of the College’s literary magazine, Phaethon. The magazine shares a long and prestigious history with the college and has featured the works of many talented artists over the years.

“Working with the Phaethon student editors was a rewarding experience. The contributions from the Herkimer College community reflect a diverse and creative body of work,” said Blake Pitcher, Assistant Professor and coordinator of the Communication Arts: New Media program. “I am especially proud of the design our students put together--it was a big task, and they delivered.”

“I was the Phaethon advisor for many years in the past, and I’m glad to see the renewed interest in its publication,” said Andrew Devitt, Assistant Professor of English who serves as the fiction advisor. “School magazines such as Phaethon are often the first publishing credential for many successful writers and visual artists. It’s important for students to see their work recognized.”

“I am honored to work with such talented students and colleagues,” said Matt Powers, Instructor of English. “This whole thing was just an idea, but their hard work, dedication, and imagination gave it shape and brought this to life. I am very proud to say I am part of this new era of Phaethon.”
Copies of the magazine may be obtained from faculty and administrative offices throughout campus beginning May 6 or by emailing litmag@herkimer.edu. A digital edition will also be available at www.herkimer.edu/phaethon.
