During SUNY Free Week, Herkimer College Reaffirms its Commitment to Affordable, Accessible Education

Amid SUNY’s Free Week (October 24-November 6), where students can submit up to five (5) applications to SUNY schools free of charge, Herkimer County Community College wants to remind prospective students and parents that its application process is always free.

In addition to the free application, Herkimer College also maintains its commitment to affordable, accessible higher education. Earlier this year, the College announced it would freeze in-state tuition and reduce out-of-state and international tuition to coincide with the in-state rate.

“Herkimer College remains committed to providing access to valuable education and understands the importance of supporting prospective students throughout the enrollment process,” Herkimer College Director of Admissions Kaylynn Iglesias explains. “In addition to the application being free, we are also available to assist students with the online application in person. Prospective students are welcome to visit us on-campus to complete the application or meet with us when we visit their Guidance Offices for Instant Decision Days. At Herkimer, we pride ourselves on being an inclusive and supportive community from the time students apply through graduation. As we navigate this new normal, we will continue supporting prospective students through whatever means necessary to ensure a smooth transition to college.”

Herkimer College held its Fall Open House on Saturday, October 22, and is planning two additional information session dates. The first date is Saturday, November 5 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and two sessions - 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, November 11. During these sessions, Herkimer College admissions counselors will be available to meet with prospective students and family members to provide information on the school’s diverse academic programs, affordability, as well as offer campus and housing tours. Participants can register at herkimer.edu/infosession.

The Financial Aid office will hold an information session as part of the SUNY Financial Aid Days campaign on November 5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Herkimer College financial aid officers will be available to help prospective students and families complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the 2023/2024 school year.

Students and families are encouraged to attend together and bring their 2021 tax information as well as other personal information including social security cards or numbers, and date of birth.
