Prepare for a lucrative career in utilities and renewable energy

Herkimer College's degree in Electrical Technology is designed to prepare students for careers in the design, application, installation, manufacturing, operation and/or maintenance of electrical/electronic(s) systems, with a focus on smart grid technologies. The program was created in partnership with Buffalo State University and the New York Power Authority. Students will experience hands-on learning in a new two million dollar state-of-the-art electrical technology smart grid laboratory. The facility allows for numerous experiments in generation, transmission, and distribution of electric power, as well as smart grid and renewable energy technologies.

To be considered for admission to the Electrical Technology A.A.S. program, high school graduates must have a cumulative average of 75 or higher and have successfully completed at least two high school mathematics courses and one science course (Physics or Chemistry are recommended). Transfer students must have a minimum GPA of 2.75 with a “B” or better in college pre-calculus and a “C” or higher in general physics.

Graduates of this program may continue their education to earn a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or a related field at partner institutions such as SUNY Buffalo State. Formal transfer agreements with four-year colleges and universities are currently in development.
