The award-winning student produced “HCTV News” is now back live for the fall semester at Herkimer College. HCTV News will run live every Thursday at 1:00pm during the semester, with an encore presentation Fridays at 5:00pm. Newscasts will also be archived on the Communication Arts YouTube channel.

The “HCTV News” crew includes students enrolled in Communication Arts programs at the college. This semester viewers will have a few new features to look out for. Assistant Professor of Communication Arts Douglas Flanagan says, “This will be the first dual anchor newscast on our new set in the TV studio. We will also add live reports from various locations across campus this semester, made possible by new technology that allows us to send live video via Wi-Fi connectivity.”

Communication Arts students Jack Sehn and Bridget Roberts will anchor the newscasts. Laura Rabbia will bring viewers the weather for Herkimer and the surrounding areas, and Colleen Chupka and Cody Mooney will serve as the live shot crew this semester. Greg Leszyk serves as the producer each week, and several other students make up the remaining crew of directors, camera operators, graphics operators, and more.

Flanagan serves as executive producer. He stresses, “This is a student powered production. They write the script, they shoot and edit, they anchor, they do weather, work the graphics, they direct, they run the video switcher, server systems, and audio. It’s their show.”

Viewers in the southern part of Herkimer County can tune into Time Warner Cable channel 97-3 or channel 99 if using a converter box.
