Griffin earns Female Athlete of the Month for February

HERKIMER, NY – Sophomore Raven Griffin was named Green & Gold Female Athlete of the Month in February. Griffin, an Education: Physical Education major at Herkimer College, averaged double figures for the month from her guard position, helping the Generals offensively the end the regular season.

A native of Syracuse, NY, Griffin averaged 11.2 points and 3.6 rebounds per game in February, up from her season averages of 7.4 and 2.4. Helping Griffin to those totals was consecutive games against Mountain Valley Conference competition where she scored 16 points against SUNY Adirondack and Schenectady. In both games Griffin shot over 50 percent from the field, hitting a season-high four three point field goals against the Timberwolves. In return it helped Griffin to nine three-point field goals for the entire month.

Her Head Coach B.J. Gouger reiterated this by saying, “Over the course of the last month Raven hit a number of big shots. In a 62-55 win over Delhi, she made a number of crucial baskets late in the game and was 5-6 from the foul line down the stretch. For the season Raven started all 25 games, average 7.4 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.6 assists. She had a career high 22 points against Clinton. Raven was the leader of our team second semester. She worked hard and continued to improve as the season went on and displayed that with a strong finish to the season."
