Generals represent well at two day Cortland Classic

CORTLAND, NY – The Herkimer Generals Track & Field team had their third meet of the season Friday (4/17), a two day meet at SUNY Cortland which concluded Saturday (4/18), called the Cortland Classic Invitational. Team results were not kept.

For the men, they had top finishes in the 1000-meter Run, 4x100-meter Relay, High Jump and Long Jump. Sam Morrett (Cohoes, NY) ran a personal best in the 10000, running 34:33.67 which gave him 11^th place. Combining in the 4x100 was Jhamel Cohen (Brooklyn, NY), Carlos Almonte (Brooklyn, NY), Seibeon Domasin (Morrisville, VT) and Hizyme Potter (Syracuse, NY). The group posted a 46.49 which gave them ninth place. Devlen Williams (Syracuse, NY) had the best placing for the men in the high jump, leaping 1.88 meters, good enough for sixth place. Jack Minasi (Newport, NY) came in 11^th place in the long jump, leaping 6.55 meters.

Competing in the decathlon for the men was Anthony Ciaccia (Selkirk, NY). The sophomore came in 16^th overall, totaling 3,577 points. His best finishes came in the long jump (6^th), 100-meter dash (12^th) and 400-meter dash (13^th).

As for the women, their top finishes came in the 1000-meter Run, 4x800-meter Relay, Shot Put and Hammer Throw. Sophomore Victoria Campanian (Glenfield, NY) came in fifth in the 10,000, posting a 39:51.80. Campanian was then joined by Shiena Kimura (Tokyo, Japan), Maki Shimoda (Ibaraka, Japan) and Yu Inose (Mito, Japan) in the relay, posting a 12:19.45 which gave them fifth overall. Finally, sophomore Trianna Gibbs (Queens, NY) finished 23^rd in both the shot put and hammer throw, throwing 8.76m and 25.91m respectively.

Competing in the heptathlon for the Generals was Lindsay Therrien (Johnstown, NY). The freshman came in 17^th (2,309 points), placing well in the 100-meter hurdles (9^th), high jump (9^th) and and javelin throw (12^th).

Herkimer’s next meet is on Tuesday, April 21^st. The team will travel to Ithaca, NY to compete in the Ithaca Tuesday Meet. Events are scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.
