Morrett runs his way to Green & Gold Athlete of the Month

HERKIMER, NY – Sophomore Sam Morrett was named Green & Gold Male Athlete of the Month in April. Morrett – an Education: Physical Education major at Herkimer College – helped the men’s track and field team to a second place finish at regionals this past weekend, their best placement in some time.

A native of Cohoes, NY- Morrett was a Region III Champion in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase, repeating as the victor in the event this season. Morrett finished at SUNY Delhi with a 10:09.46 which was a personal best, running 20 seconds faster than his championship time in 2014 (10:29.74).

“At regionals Sam repeated as the steeplechase champion, also placing third in the 10,000 meter and 3,200 meter relay, and fourth in the 1,500 meter and 5,000 meter,” said Head Track & Field Coach Sharon Howell. “He goes above and beyond most athletes, readily available to do whatever is needed to help our team compete. Sam is extremely coachable and has been outstanding for our program these past two seasons!”
