Track & Field places 8th and 11th at nationals

UTICA, NY – After an impressive showing at their 2015 regional meet, the Herkimer Generals Track & Field team kept up that momentum at nationals, seeing the men finish 8^th overall, the women finish 11^th, Anthony Ciaccia (Selkirk, NY) finish ninth in the decathlon and Lindsey Therrien (Johnstown, NY) finish sixth in the heptathlon.

Helping the men to eighth place was solid performances from Sam Morrett (Cohoes, NY), Chris Simmons (Utica, NY) and Jack Minasi (Newport, NY). Morrett captured third place in the 3000-meter steeplechase and seventh in the 10000-meter run, posting a 10:07.20 and 36:23.18. Simmons finished eighth in the 100-meter dash and fourth in the triple jump, running a 13.96 in the 100 and leaping 13.68 meter in the triple. Minasi finished second in both the long jump and high jump, giving the sophomore the only All-American mention for the Generals over the three-day meet, making it to the second team. Minasi tallied 6.87 meters in the long jump and 1.98 meters in the high jump.

As for the women, their top finishes came in the 3000-meter steeplechase, 10000-meter run and high jump. Victoria Campanian (Glenfield, NY) placed third in the 3000 (11:45.00), Shiena Kimura (Tokyo, Japan) placed sixth in the 10000-meter run and Therrien finished ninth in the high jump (1.39m).

In the decathlon, Ciacci amassed 3830 points. Helping the sophomore to those totals was a fifth place finish in the pole vault (2.73m) and two sixth place finishes in the long jump (5.69m) and shot put (8.49m).

In the heptathlon, Therrien finished with 2492 points. Her best finishes came in the high jump, shot put and javelin throw. 1.36 meters and 7.70 meters gave her second in the high jump and shot put, while 19.95 meters gave her fourth place in the javelin.
