Herkimer alum Ben Polk wins PDL Title

HERKIMER, NY - Former Generals men’s soccer star Ben Polk capped his summer off on Sunday (8/2) by raising the trophy with his K-W United FC Club teammates as they claimed the 2015 PDL (Premier Development League) Championship.

Top-seeded K-W United FC, based out of Ontario, Canada, scored three first-half goals and earned a 4-3 victory against New York Red Bulls U23 during Sunday’s title match presented by Nike at Starfire Stadium in Tukwila, Washington. Polk, K-W United’s leading goal scorer during the PDL regular season, scored the first goal in the sixth minute.

K-W United posted an 11-2-1 regular-season record, followed by five postseason victories, for a combined 16-2-1 mark. Between the regular season and postseason, K-W capped off the off the year with a 15-game unbeaten run (14-0-1).

Polk had a great playoff run scoring both goals in a 2-0 win in the first round versus Forest City London. He also had the game winner in the conference semi-final scoring in the 86th minute in a 3-2 win over Des Moines Menace. For all of his efforts during the season he was named to the PDL All-Central Conference Team.

“Ben had an unbelievable PDL season,” said Herkimer Head Men’s Soccer Coach Pepe Aragon.  “He is a tremendous finisher and scored in some big games for K-W United. He continues to make his Herkimer soccer family proud!”

The PDL (Premier Development League) is sponsored by the United Soccer League in the United States and Canada, and is widely considered the top-level men's amateur league in the U.S. with a plethora of former players going on to successful Major League Soccer and international professional careers.
