Women's soccer accumulates three hat tricks in opener

HERKIMER, NY – Opening the regular season in impressive fashion on Saturday (8/29) at Wehrum Stadium, the Herkimer Generals women’s soccer team defeated Bergen Community College 13-0.

Herkimer (1-0) saw Teigha Ward (Ilion, NY), Michaela Bianca (Guilderland, NY) and Grace Johnson (Tully, NY) tally hat tricks within 90 minutes of play against the Bulldogs. Ward and Bianca both got theirs in the first half after the team built a 10-0 lead at intermission. Johnson scored two of the Generals three goals in the second half on assists from Leann Clark (St. Johnsville, NY) and Ward.

Alicia Randall (Morris, NY) was the final player to score in the 61st minute, unassisted, giving the commanding 13-0 lead with 29 minutes left in regulation.

In goal for Herkimer was Sydney Stanley (Schoharie, NY). The sophomore saved two shots in 90 minutes of play.

The team continues the Coliseum Tournament at home on Sunday (8/30), hosting Union County College at Wehrum Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m.
