Season-high 10 goals scored in win over Jayhawks

(Ocasio Brown got his first hat trick as a General in the 88th minute of Saturday's game).

HERKIMER, NY – More than doubling their season total of goals scored in the team’s first three games, the #4 Herkimer Generals men’s soccer team netted 10 goals on Saturday (9/5) at Wehrum Stadium to defeat Jamestown Community College 10-0.

Herkimer (3-1-0) scored four times in the first half with captain Femi Kaffo (London, England) providing the initial spark. The sophomore scored in the 1st and 13th minute, the first time unassisted, and the second time via a penalty kick to put the game at 2-0 early.

Two more sophomores, Yuu Sasaki (Chiba, Japan) and Ocasio Brown (Discovery Bay, Jamaica), rounded out the first half scoring on assists from Moulid Somow (Utica, NY) and Kaffo in the 19th and 29th. It was both players first goal of the season, doubling the lead to 4-0.

The second half saw four different Generals helped tally six goals in the final 45 minutes of play. Emmanuel Nelson (Schenectady, NY) and Kevin Van der Slik (Zoetermeer, Holland) benefitted from assists by Kaffo. Nelson’s goal in the 52nd was his first of the season, while Van der Slik’s in the 56th was his third, scoring in the Generals last three games now.

Trading the final four goals was Milano Kuku (Springfield, MA) and Brown. Kuku was first, netting goals in the 73rd and 89th minute, while Brown managed his first hat trick of the season after scoring in the 59th and 88th. The hat trick was Brown’s first as a General.

Splitting time in goal Saturday was Morrice Baker (Bridgeport, CT) and Ian James (Saint Kitts, Caribbean Sea). Baker got the start and played 77 minutes while James added 13 to conclude the game. Baker was the only one to register a save in the game.

Herkimer will travel to play conference rival SUNY Adirondack on Wednesday (9/9), giving the Generals a chance to rest after a busy first week of the season. The Timberwolves will head into the game with a 2-0 record, defeating Onondaga and Fulton-Montgomery 3-2 and 4-1 in their first two games of the season, both on the road.
