Women’s basketball edges out another late victory at home

HERKIMER, NY – Down by seven points with under four minutes left in regulation, the Herkimer Generals women’s basketball team ended the game on a 13-to-6 run to defeat Clinton Community College at home on Sunday (11/8) 63-59, increasing their current win streak to three games.

Herkimer (3-0, 1-0) lost a double digit halftime lead (36-26) by the end of the third quarter and didn’t start clicking offensively until there was 3:49 left in regulation down by seven. Kristy Wallace (Frankfort, NY) scored her first points of the game on an assist from Khristaijah Jackson (Philadelphia, PA), draining a three-point field goal which cut the deficit to 57-53. Another three pointer by DaKara Spence (Beacon, NY) with 2:21 left cut the deficit to one point (57-56), then Wallace hit another jumper with 47.4 left to give her team a 58-57 lead which would not be relinquished. Wallace finished the game scoring five points. Assisting on Wallace’s second jumper again was Jackson. She was second on the team in points behind Angela Porcelli’s (Marlboro, NY) game-high 21.

The final 36 seconds of regulation saw Jackson, Porcelli and Emerald Pett (Utica, NY) ice the game, going 4-for-6 from the charity stripe.

The Generals next game is on Wednesday (11/11), traveling to face #3 Mohawk Valley Community College who is also undefeated on the season with a 3-0 record. Game time between both teams is 6 p.m.
