Generals get back on track at home, defeat Vikings 72-45

HERKIMER, NY – Led by a season-high 21 points from Angela Porcelli, the Herkimer Generals women’s basketball team remained undefeated at home on Saturday (11/14), defeating Hudson Valley 72-45.

Herkimer (4-1, 2-1) came out on fire in the first quarter, building a 16-point lead within the first 10 minutes of competition. Emerald Pett (Utica, NY), Khristaijah Jackson (Philadelphia, PA), and Porcelli combined for 16 of the 24 scored, all in the first seven minutes, while Kirsty Wallace (Frankfort, NY) Olivia Fitzgerald (Lyons Falls, NY) and Dahnasia Williams (Albany, NY) totaled the other eight points in the final three. Pett finished with five points, Jackson had 12, Porcelli had 21, Wallace had four and Williams had four.

Alexia Patterson (Utica, NY), DaKara Spence (Beacon, NY) and Hannah Potter (Pulaski, NY) then joined in on the offensive support, going into halftime with a 25-point lead (45-20).

The second half saw the lead remain at 20 points throughout, ballooning to 27 a couple times before ending the game with baskets from Megan Veschusio (Rome, NY), Fitzgerald and Chelsea Jory (Herkimer, NY) which kept it at 27 with the 72-45 win.

The Generals will have another home game on Wednesday (11/18). This time they’ll host Tompkins Cortland Community College in the varsity gym at 5 p.m. The Panthers are currently 2-3 on the season with wins over Erie and Schenectady.
