Generals post 36 best times at home meet Saturday
(Nicholas Herrlett broke a school record on Saturday, accumulating 273.37 points from his six attempts at Cristman Pool).
HERKIMER, NY – Hosting their lone home meet of the season on Saturday (11/21), the Herkimer Generals swimming and diving program didn’t disappoint, capturing first and third place at Cristman Pool.
Yielding first place for the Generals was the women. They placed first in eight of their 11 events, two coming via relay and six from individual events. Pairing in the relays was Leah Giacchetta (Rotterdam, NY), Corinne Richer (Clinton, NY), Jensen VanNostrand (Macedon, NY) and Hannah Watts (Norwich, NY). The group placed first in both the 200 yd. Medley Relay and 200 yd. Freestyle Relay, posting 1:59.40 in the medley and 2:04.17 in the freestyle.
Individually, Herkimer had five different women post first place times. Richer did it in the 1000 yd. Freestyle, posting a 13:04.26. VanNostrand did it in the 200 yd. Individual Medley and 100 yd. Butterfly, posting 2:39.22 in the 200 and 1:14.12 100. Tomomi Itadani (Okayama, Japan) did it in the 50 yd. Freestyle, posting a 32.84. Watts did it in the 100 yd. Backstroke, posting a 1:20.19. And Jordan Mercer (Oneida, NY) did it in the 100 yd. Breaststroke, posting a 1:26.57.
As for the men, they had two first place and four second place finishes. Capturing first place was Cameron Roten (Johnstown, NY) and Nicholas Herrlett (Gloversville, NY). Roten got his in the 50 yd. Freestyle. The freshman swam a 24.52. Herrlett did his damage in one-meter diving. The freshman accumulated 273.37 points in his six attempts, setting Herkimer college records in consecutive weeks now in one-meter diving.
Helping the men to second place finishes was Nicholas Lanckton (Holland Patent, NY), Jacob Cardinal (Newport, NY), Dean Schrider (Holland Patent, NY) and Roten. Lanckton placed second in the 1000 yd. Freestyle (12:51.70) and 500 yd. Freestyle (6:08.07). Cardinal did in the 100 yd. Freestyle (59.77). Then Schrider and Roten joined Lanckton and Cardinal in the 200 yd. Freestyle Relay, posting a 1:42.47 for the men’s fourth second place finish.
The Generals will continue their regular season on Saturday, December 5th. The program will travel to Rochester, NY and take part in the Monroe Community College Invitational. The Tribunes have scheduled the meet to begin at 1 p.m. in the aquatic center.
