Generals collect sixth win at home, defeat Hornets 41-36

(Alexandria Hardy gets the steal, the goes coast-to-coast for the basket Saturday against SUNY Broome).

HERKIMER, NY – Allowing 15 total points in the final 20 minutes of regulation on Saturday (12/5), the Herkimer Generals women’s basketball team collected their sixth win at home against SUNY Broome, defeating the Hornets 41-36.

Herkimer (6-4, 2-1) traded leads throughout the contest, needing three-point baskets by freshman Angela Porcelli (Marlboro, NY) in the third to put away the Hornets for good. Porcelli knocked down three shots from distance, finishing the game with a team-high 13 points.

The final quarter saw the Generals push the lead to 10 (35-25), but that’s the highest the deficit got. Herkimer needed buckets by Khristaijah Jackson (Philadelphia, PA) and Kristy Wallace (Frankfort, NY) in the final five minutes to keep a Broome comeback at bay. Wallace sank a jumper from Jackson with 2:52 left to put it back at five points (41-36), then a block by Jackson and steal by Diamonique Franklin (Long Island City, NY) iced it.

Herkimer’s next game is on Wednesday (12/9), beginning a stretch of three consecutive games on the road. They’ll face SUNY Adirondack who is 5-6. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
