Conference record drops to 3-3 with loss to Saints

HERKIMER, NY – Unable to string together consecutive wins since the beginning of December, the Herkimer Generals women’s basketball team lost to North Country on Wednesday (1/20) 71-64.

Herkimer (7-7, 3-3) battled with the Saints throughout the first half, going into intermission down by two (30-28) despite North Country connecting on five three point field goals, going 3-for-4 in the first quarter alone.

The second half saw the Generals chip away at a nine point deficit (40-31) with 4:23 left in the third, riding Khristaijah Jackson for an 8-0 run until Emerald Pett (Utica, NY) tied the game at 41-41 with 1:51 remaining in the quarter. Jackson scored the final four points, going into the fourth quarter with a one point lead (45-44). Jackson finished the game with 33 points, her second 30 point game of the season.

In the fourth, Pett increased it to a three point deficit (47-44) for North Country, but the Saints recaptured the lead with seven minutes left and never looked back. It remained a one possession game throughout until the final two minutes.

Up next for the Generals is Hudson Valley on Saturday (1/23). The Vikings are 1-13 and losers of their last seven. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
