Women’s basketball falls to #3 Mohawk Valley

(Hannah Potter sinks the only three point field goal by the Generals in the second half, from the corner).

HERKIMER, NY – Hosting their second consecutive Mountain Valley Conference matchup Wednesday (1/27), the Herkimer Generals women’s basketball team lost to #3 Mohawk Valley 74-45.

Herkimer (8-8, 4-4) climbed out of a 17 point hole in the second quarter, thanks in part to an aggressive offense which attempted 11 foul shots in the span of 10 minutes. Leading the attack was Emerald Pett (Utica, NY), Alexandria Hardy (Kerhonkson, NY) and Diamonique Franklin (Long Island City, NY). Each had four shots from the charity stripe, helping going into halftime down 38-22. Pett finished with nine, Hardy finished with nine and Franklin finished with eight.

The second half saw Mohawk Valley push the lead to 18 a couple times, but it didn’t stop the Generals from trying to come back. They got it down to 13 (46-33) with 3:59 left in the third until a 11-to-5 run made it 19 points by the start of the fourth quarter.

Mohawk Valley outscored Herkimer 17-to-7 in the fourth to give Generals a 2-4 record in their last six games, winning 74-45.

Up next for Herkimer is Clinton Community College. The Generals will travel to play the Cougars on Saturday (1/30). Clinton is 5-13 and 1-6 in their last seven games. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
