Kinney places ninth overall in All-Events at nationals
CHEEKTOAGA, NY – In their final competition of the season, a three-day match at Airport Lanes, the Herkimer Generals bowling program finished 11th and seventh overall.
Helping the men were Matt Gladstone (Norwich, NY), Stephen Cross (Ilion, NY) and Marshall Sterling (Mohawk, NY). The tandem took the top three spots for the Generals, placing 30th, 32nd and 44th respectively in All-Events. Gladstone did his best work in five-man, bowling 560 in games 1-3. Cross did his best in doubles, pairing with Ean Hayner (Kingston, NY) to combine for 1068, of which Cross had 550. Sterling did his best in doubles as well, rolling a 596 with Hunter Guest (Middleburgh, NY), totaling 1059 for 20th place.
As for the women, Korena Kinney (Taberg, NY) led the entire group with the only top 10 finish. The freshman bowled an average 174.3, totaling over 500 pins in every event but doubles when she paired with Molly McGuire (Solvay, NY). Her best showing came in five-man when she rolled a 582 in games 1-3. After Kinney, Megan Durgan (Rome, NY) finished 27th, McGuire finished 30th, Ashley Salisbury (Sherrill, NY) finished 33rd and Alysha Buck (Syracuse, NY) finished 45th. All but Buck and McGuire were able to roll over a 500 in All-Events. Durgan did so in games 4-6 of five-man (542), and Salisbury did it in doubles (501) and games 4-6 of five man (510).
