HERKIMER, NY - Former two-sport standout Wendall Williams ran a near recording-breaking 40-yard dash at an NFL Regional Combine in Minneapolis, MN this past Saturday (3/5). The six-time JUCO track & field national champion posted a hand-timed 4.19 seconds which would’ve broken All-Pro Chris Johnson’s 4.24 he ran in 2008 until an official 4.34 laser time was recorded. Nonetheless, Williams garnered enough attention for a private workout with the New York Jets and Oakland Raiders after multiple NFL scouts witnessed his athletic prowess at Winter Park. Williams, who also doubled as a SUNY Chancellor’s Scholar Athlete with Herkimer before transferring to University of the Cumberlands (KY) in 2014, will have to wait like other hopefuls till the end of April (28-30) when the 2016 NFL Draft is scheduled.
