Simmons runs his way to Green & Gold in March

HERKIMER, NY – Herkimer Generals track & field athlete Christopher Simmons of Utica, NY was named Green & Gold Male Athlete of the Month for March, qualifying for nationals in four events during their first meet at Hamilton College.

Simmons – a Business: Sports & Recreation Management major at Herkimer College – compiled one first place, two second, one third and one fifth place at Pritchard Track the last weekend of March. The sophomore placed first in the triple jump (13.11m), second in the long jump (6.28m) and 100-meter (11.18), third in the high jump (1.67m) and fifth in the 4x100-meter relay (44.63). After that meet - his 11.18 in the 100 was the second fastest time in the nation, his 6.28m in the long jump was eighth best and his 13.11m in the triple jump was the third best.

“Being a second-year student Chris knows what it takes to be successful at nationals,” said Head Track & Field Coach Sharon Howell. “With that knowledge, he’s looking to bring home a national title in May.
