Men’s soccer ties with Le Moyne in first exhibition

SYRACUSE, NY – The Herkimer men’s soccer team traveled to LeMoyne College for their first pre-season match on Saturday, August 20th.  Both teams played to a 1-1 tie in three 35 minute quarters.

Le Moyne took the lead in the first 10 minutes of the game on a penalty kick. Herkimer was called for a handball inside the penalty area.

The Generals tied the game five minutes into the second quarter on a goal by sophomore Jordan Saling off an assist by sophomore Eddie Speed. Herkimer capitalized on a turnover in the Dolphins defensive end resulting in a great combination goal.

Both teams had great chances to score the second goal with neither finding the back of the net.  Herkimer’s best opportunity was in the third quarter off of a great hustle play of freshman Will Myers.  Myers won a 50/50 challenge in the corner of Lemoyne’s end and played a great ball inside the penalty area to sophomore Chris Cornwill who shot far post with the Dolphins goalkeeper making a great save.

The Generals have one day to recovery and then will host Utica College at Wehrum Stadium for their last pre-season game on Monday, August 22nd.  Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m.
