HERKIMER, NY – Herkimer College has appointed Jerry Smith as acting head coach for women’s basketball during the 2016-2017 season, replacing Peter Anadio after one year of service. Smith will be responsible for scouting, recruiting, match and practice planning and player development.

“I look forward in coming back to Herkimer and developing the women’s basketball program,” said Smith. “I’ve had ample success here, and plan to keep that going.”

Smith previously assisted the women’s basketball program for two years (2011-2012) under the guidance of then Head Coach John Campagna. He also helped assist the women’s soccer program for two seasons (2012-2013) under then Head Coach Amy Dommer.

In total, Smith has 30 years of coaching and teaching experience. He retired from the Camden Central School District in 2011 as an elementary teacher. He also coached soccer, softball and basketball during that time. Jerry holds a B.A. in Early & Secondary Education with a concentration in Social Studies and an M.A. in Early Childhood Education from SUNY Cortland.

“Jerry is a great addition to the Herkimer staff,” said Athletic Director Donald Dutcher. “His passion and enthusiasm for the game will benefit our student-athletes. He brings a wealth of knowledge to the sideline, thus we look forward to an exciting and successful year.”
