Bernier and Amentler Stand Out Among NJCAA Region III Athletes
Herkimer Generals women’s cross-country stars Chyanna Bernier (Ilion, NY) and Tiffany Amentler (Elmira, NY) earn the honor of being named Region III NJCAA Players of the week. Bernier earned this title back in week seven and Herkimer also adds another to the list in week nine. Bernier and Amentler have led their teams to both a Mountain Valley Conference and Region III Championship this 2016 season.
Local athlete Chyanna Bernier a Criminal Justice major graduated high school from Central Valley Academy in Ilion, NY and has represented herself extremely well in her freshman season at Herkimer. This season Bernier participated in 8 races and competed against some of the top NJCAA and NCAA schools in New York State including LeMoyne, Ithaca College, SUNY Cortland, Mohawk Valley, SUNY Adirondack and many more. Out of her eight races Chyanna has earned seven top five finishes, four of which were first place finishes. Bernier who earned a placement on the All-Region team, is on the right track towards earning herself and Head Coach Steve Sydoriw’s first National Championship for Cross Country.
Freshman Tiffany Amentler a General Studies major from Elmira, NY has been another impactful runner for this year’s Herkimer Generals cross-country team. Amentler has earned the NJCAA’s week nine Player of the Week award for her third place finish in the Mountain Valley Conference championship last weekend at her home course. Out of her eight races this season four of which Tiffany ran among the top ten finishers including a second place finish behind fellow General Chyanna Bernier in the Herkimer Invitational Saturday October 1st. Amentler has helped her team win the Mountain Valley Conference Championship and the Regional Championship this season. Amentler, who also earned a spot on the All-Region team this weekend, has taken big strides this season towards leaving a lasting legacy for herself, her team, and her college.
