Cortland, NY-- Local products Chyanna Bernier (Ilion, NY) and Malik Briggs (Herkimer, NY) both competed well at the SUNY Cortland Classic the weekend of April 22 & 23.  Bernier one might remember helped the Generals Cross Country team win the program's first ever Region III Championship this past fall.  Her staple on the track team is the women's 10,000 meter run.  At Cortland she finished second out of ten in 40:01.75 as the only NJCAA runner among nine other NCAA athletes; mostly upperclassmen.  Bernier also finished in the middle of the pack in the women's 800m coming in 35th out of 57 with a time of 2:42.56.

On the men's side Herkimer native Malik Briggs landed in the top three for his staple event the men's high jump.  Briggs has worked his way to becoming a Herkimer legend at the high jump as he has finished first in his last three meets prior to the Cortland Classic.  At SUNY Geneseo he finished 1st at 1.95M.  At Nazareth he finished 1st breaking the meet record at 1.98M.  At Brockport Briggs finished 1st jumping 1.93M.  At the Cortland Classic Briggs finished third jumping 1.9M just missing the top by .5 meters.

Another notable performance came from Generals sprinter Michael Marcucci Jr. (Buffalo, NY) who continued his four meet streak placing in the top 20 for the men's 100 meter dash.  At the Cortland Classic Marcucci finished 19th out of 45, running it in 11.81 seconds.
