Ward Records Hat trick in Men’s Region III Semi-final Game
Herkimer, NY – The Herkimer men’s soccer team beat Finger Lakes CC 5-0 in a Region III semifinal game. Sophomore Ferguson Ward (London, England) recorded a hat trick to lead the Generals. Sophomore Camilo Avendano (Cape Coral, Florida) scored the first goal of the game in the 9th minute off an assist from Ward. Avendano scored off a great combination pass with Ward inside the penalty area for the goal. Ward then scored the next three goals of the game. His first was in the 12th minute off an assist from Sophomore Gianni Cognata (Cape Coral, Florida). Cognata beat a Finger Lakes defender down the left side and passed the ball to an open Ward for the first time finish. Wards second goal was assisted by freshman Andre Blanco (Cape Coral, Florida) in the 27th minute. Wards third goal was off an assist by Cognata in the 30th minute on a great service into Finger Lakes penalty area for the first time header for the goal. Freshman Diego Bastone (Hopewell Junction, NY) finished off the scoring for the Generals in the 33rd minute on an assist from freshman Tyler Dobinson (Exeter, England). Dobinson played the ball to Bastone outside of the right side of the penalty area where Bastone beat three defenders and scored on a breakaway.
Sophomore goalkeeper Roandre Wollery (Hartford, Conn) recorded 2 saves in 45 minutes of play. Sophomore goalkeeper Liam Mullings (London, England) recorded 2 saves in the second 45 minutes.
The Generals improve to a record of 17-1-1 and will face Onondaga CC in the Region III B championship game at Genesee CC. Kick-off is at 7:00pm. Genesee will host the men’s Region III Championship A and B games on Sunday, October 29th.
