Generals unable to capitalize in conference play

HERKIMER, NY – After their best overall game against SUNY Delhi at home, both on offense and defense, the Herkimer Women’s Basketball team has lost their last two games, both away, against Mountain Valley Conference opponents.

Despite a season-high 18 points from Samantha Randio (Ravena, NY), 14 coming in the second half, the Generals lost to the SUNY Adirondack Timberwolves 66-53. The other General to score in double figures was Emily Rexford (Canton, NY). Connecting on three three-point field goals in the game, Rexford finished with 17.

In their second game of the week against Schenectady Community College, the Generals had a better offensive showing, scoring 26 in the first half (only scored 18 against the Timberwolves). The team beat that total in the second half, scoring 30 more points against the Royals, but allowed 81 total, losing the game 81-56.

In the game, eight players scored. They were Rexford, Randio, Shahadah Williams (Syracuse, NY), Kaylyn Dickerson (Douglasville, GA), Raven Griffin (Syracuse, NY), Korey Bunal (Rome, NY), Cheyenne Richards (Little Falls, NY) and Alyssa Craig (Fonda, NY). Rexford finished with eight points, Randio finished with six points, Williams finished with 14 points, Dickerson finished with two points, Griffin finished with three points, Bunal finished with 13 points (11 in the second half), Richards finished with two points and Craig finished with eight points.

Herkimer’s next game is today (1/20). After a week away from their home court, the Generals will host Cayuga Community College, who is a part of the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Tip-off is at 1 p.m.
