HERKIMER, NY – Scoring an impressive 44 points in the second half of Saturday’s game against Hudson Valley, thanks in part to 26 combined points from Samantha Randio (Ravena, NY) and Shahadah Williams (Syracuse, NY), the Herkimer Generals Women’s Basketball team came close to winning their first away game since November, losing to the Vikings 69-65.

Herkimer 7-10 (3-5) found themselves down by double-digits after the first half, scoring only 21 points in the first 20 minutes. Kaylyn Dickerson (Douglasville, GA), Korey Bunal (Rome, NY) and Rexford scored 19 of the 21, with Rexford nailing three of her five three-point field goals in the game in the first half, leading the team with nine at intermission.

In the second half, where Herkimer scored one of their better point totals, Randio and Williams came alive, scoring 26 points (14 from Randio and 12 from Williams), adding to Rexford and Bunal’s effort on the hardwood which combined for 14 (Rexford scored eight and Bunal scored six).

The Generals next game is Wednesday against Mohawk Valley Community College. The last time these two teams played, the Hawks prevailed with a double-digit win. With the game now at home, where Herkimer is 6-1, the game should be competitive. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
