Herkimer College to host Be the Match Bone Marrow Registry Drive

Herkimer College will be hosting Be the Match Bone Marrow Registry drive on Tuesday, October 2, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Robert McLaughlin College Center, upper lobby.

Every 3 minutes, someone is diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma or another blood cancer. For many, the only cure is a blood stem cell transplant. Twenty five percent will find a donor in their immediate family and another 25% will find a donor in the worldwide marrow registry. If you are between the ages of 18 and 44, patients need you. Donors in this age group provide the best chance for transplant success. Patients are most likely to match someone who shares their ancestry. While all donors are needed, donors urgently needed are African American, Latino, Asian, American Indian or mixed race. Joining the marrow registry is easy – just get your cheeks swabbed (no needles) and fill out a short health questionnaire.

If you can't make it to the event, you can join online at https://join.bethematch.org/HerkimerSaves.

Be The Match Marrow Donor Registry is sponsored by the Herkimer College Center for Student Leadership & Involvement. For more information, call 315-574-4032 or email studentactivities@herkimer.edu.
