Generals Men's Soccer wins first game of 2019 season

Syracuse, NY – The Herkimer men’s soccer team defeated Onondaga CC 5-1 on their first road game of the season.  The Generals got on the scoreboard in the 15th minute off a goal by freshman Alex Charles (St. Kitts).  Sophomore Ryheim Hinds (Bridgeport, CT) played a ball over the top of the Lazers back four to Charles who took a touch and then finished to the far post. Sophomore  Mupenzi Irakiza (Syracuse, NY) scored the next two goals of the game.  Irakiza scored his first goal of the game in the 47th minute off an assist from sophomore Shemar Blair (Brampton, Ontario).  Blair took on the outside right back and served a ball into the six yard box to Irikaza for the first touch finish.  Irikaza scored his second goal of the match in the 50th minute on a penalty kick.  A Lazers defender had a hand ball in their penalty area for the penalty kick call. 

Sophomore Jaahdel Cyrill (Bridgeport, CT) scored in the 83rd minute off an assist from freshman Yohan Kim (Seoul, South Korea).  Cyril Headed the ball off a service from Kim.  Freshman Christ Valle (Monroe, NY) finished off the scoring in the 89th minutes off an assist from sophomore Ryotaro Hayashi (Osaka, Japan).  Hayashi served the ball into the right side of the penalty area to Valle who took two touches and finished to the back post.  Sophomore Tinius Klausen (Oslo, Norway) recorded 3 saves in 80 minutes off action. 

The Generals are next on the road on Wednesday, September 4th where they will take on Adirondack CC in a Region III game.  Kickoff is at 4:00pm.
