The Herkimer County Community College Board of Trustees has granted emeritus status to Randolph Baker, effective September 2020.

Emeritus status is an honor granted by the Board of Trustees to retired professional academic and administrative staff members who have demonstrated excellence and commitment to making Herkimer College the exceptional institution it is today.

Baker was hired by the College in August 2003 as an assistant professor in the Business/Computer Science Division, and was promoted to associate professor in Fall 2010. He retired in August 2020.

While at the College, Baker developed a science lab course in robotics, was the program lead for Computer Science, and also worked on many unique curricular proposals, such as an interdisciplinary Video Gaming curriculum with faculty from multiple discipline areas.

He served as co-chair of the Academic Programs and Support Task Force for Herkimer College’s Middle States Accreditation strategic planning efforts, served on the academic senate, and was the advisor to the Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) Club, which is the future leaders of America service organization. He was a New York State Chairperson for that organization, responsible for organizing all the chapters within the state and representing their interest to the national organization.

“The Board of Trustees and I extend congratulations to Randy and thank him for his many years of service and dedication to our students and to our College,” Herkimer College President Cathleen McColgin said in an email announcing the award.
