Herkimer College appoints director of financial aid

Herkimer County Community College has appointed Maureen M. (Seaman) Boufas to the role of director of financial aid.

Boufas, of Herkimer, NY, is a Herkimer College alumna and went on to receive her B.S. in accounting from SUNY Polytechnic Institute. She is the former assistant director of financial aid at Mohawk Valley Community College, where she assisted students with financial aid questions; ran disbursements and certifications for Pell Grants, the Excelsior scholarship, and various student loans; collaborated with the MVCC IT department on new implementations to streamline the financial aid process; assisted students and families with FAFSA and TAP applications; and more. Boufas also worked as a financial aid counselor at Wells College.

Boufas acted as a leader for MVCC’s Financial Aid and Billing Implementation Guided Pathways team and was an LGBTQ committee member. She also serves as chairwoman of the SUNY Empire State Diversity Honors Scholarship program.

At Herkimer College, Boufas will be responsible for developing and implementing policies and procedures related to all financial aid processing requirements, as well as manage and lead the Financial Aid Office. As director, she will help other members of her team counsel students and families in need of financial aid and assist them in finding the means to finance college expenses.
