Herkimer Softball Finishes Fifth in Country

SYRACUSE – The Herkimer College softball team earned fifth place after going 2-2 at the NJCAA Division III National Championship at Carrier Park. They finished the season with a 34-9-1 record.

It’s the ninth consecutive time the Lady Generals have finished in the fifth-or-better in the country. Since 2013, the program has had one National Championship win, four runner-up finishes, and three seasons finishing in the top five.

By the Numbers

Herkimer went 27-for-104 (.259) at the plate in its four National Championship games.

Sophomore third baseman Kassandra Granobles(Miami, FL) led the team with six hits in the tournament, including a four-hit performance vs. St. Cloud Tech CC.

Freshman DP Hailey Hunter(Deerfield, NY) and freshman pitcher / second baseman Madison Puppolo(Adams, MA) were the only two players to record a hit in the last three games of the tournament. 

Hunter was recently named an NJCAA All-American finishing the season with a .418 batting average and 46 RBI.

Puppolo finished the season 9-3 with a 3.30 ERA and had the third-highest batting average on the team. (.362)
