Men’s Soccer National Championship Ring Ceremony

HERKIMER, NY – The Herkimer Generals men’s soccer team had their national championship ring ceremony Saturday evening at Herkimer College, celebrating the team’s third consecutive NJCAA DIII National Championship and 10th overall.
In 2013 the team went 17-1, defeating Suffolk County Community College 1-0 for the championship. Collectively the team had 13 shutouts, helping them outscore opponents 62-to-5.
Included in the ceremony were numerous mentions to Captain Peter McAvoy (Dundee, Scotland), who passed away last week. Teammates Brian Coyt (Port Chester, NY), Triston Henry (Scarborough, Ont.) and James Wilson (Woodford Green, England) stood amongst their peers reliving memories with their friend in mind.
Accepting McAvoy’s second national championship ring was his girlfriend while McAvoy’s father watched live online from Scotland.
