Men’s Soccer Preseason No. 1 in NSCAA Poll

NSCAA Junior College DIII Rankings

HERKIMER, NY – For the third consecutive season the Herkimer Generals men’s soccer team will be going into a season ranked number one by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

The Generals are coming off a 17-1 record in 2013 where they won their third consecutive NJCAA DIII National Championship, defeating Suffolk County Community College 1-0 at Wehrum Stadium back in November.

In his 17th year at Herkimer College, Head Coach Pepe Aragon will be loking for his eighth championship. Aragon said, “I am very excited about the 2014 season as we play in proud honor of our captain Peter McAvoy. Not only will we be playing for Pete, but our past two senior classes who played with him will do as well. Pete will be honored throughout the county at every college level from Herkimer Soccer Alumni.”

McAvoy, who passed away in April, helped Herkimer to consecutive championships in 2012 and 2013. Ironically, McAvoy wore jersey #4 his two years at Herkimer, and the men’s soccer team will look to win a fourth consecutive national championship for the first time in the history of the program.
