Men’s Soccer Nets Nine Goals Against Timberwolves

HERKIMER, NY – With six different players notching goals in 90 minutes of play against SUNY Adirondack Wednesday afternoon at Wehurm Stadium, the Herkimer Generals men’s soccer team cruised to a 9-0 victory over the Timberwolves.

Herkimer (5-0, 1-0) got four goal in the first half and two by scoring leader Ben Polk (Banbury, UK). The sophomore scored in the 7th minute and 44th minute on assist from Connor Shearer (Oneonta, NY) and Rodrigo Guerra (Newburgh, NY) to give Polk 10 goals on the season.

Netting the other two goals in the 26th and 33rd were Guerra and Jermaine Windster (Rotterdam, Holland). Guerra scored on an assist from Windster to give the freshman two goals in his last two games. As for the sophomore Windster, he broke a two-game scoreless streak, notching his fourth goal and second assist of the season.

After intermission, Herkimer didn’t waste any time building the lead to 5-0. In the 57th Preston Higgins (Port Chester, NY) scored his first goal of the season on an assist from Jeff Castaneda (Franklin Square, NY). One minute later Castaneda scored his second goal of the season on a penalty kick to make it 6-0. Castaneda didn’t stop there though, the freshman scored his second goal of the game in the 65th minute on an assist from Femi Kaffo (London, England). It was Castaneda’s third goal in the Generals last three games.

Rounding out the scoring for Herkimer was Ocasio Brown (Bridgeport, CT) and Kaffo. In the 74th Kaffo found Brown for the 8-0 lead and then Brian Vasquez (White Plains, NY) found Kaffo in the 85th for the 9-0 lead.

In the net for Herkimer on Wednesday was Austin Santor (Chazy, NY) and Alberto Sanchez (Yonkers, NY). Each played 45 minutes with Santor saving two and Sanchez saving one. The shutout gave Santor his second of the season.

The Generals next game is on Saturday, September 13th. They’ll play their second consecutive Mountain Valley Conference opponent in as many games. Fulton-Montgomery will host Herkimer with game time scheduled for 3 p.m.
