HERKIMER, NY – Freshman Teigha Ward was named Green & Gold Female Athlete of the Month in September. Ward, an Education: Physical Education major at Herkimer College, has helped the women’s soccer team stay nationally ranked all season, as high as second, netting six game winning goals in nine games, second best in the nation.

A resident of Ilion, NY, Ward’s impact was instant, scoring the team’s first four goals against then nationally ranked Holyoke and Onondaga. It didn’t stop there as the forward accumulated her second hat trick against North Country Community College, scoring a season-high four goals against the Saints.

To date Ward has 16 goals which is fifth best in the nation. She has scored in every game for the Generals but one, netting two or more goals in five games this season, but more importantly she has helped Herkimer remain undefeated against DIII competition, beating four ranked opponents during that time.

“Teigha has gone above and beyond our expectations, on and off the field this season,” said Head Women’s Soccer Coach Ryan Brooks-Newton. “It’s scary to think she is only a freshman and what the future holds for her, helping turn this program into a national power!”
