Multi-goal effort by Felton clinches MVC for Generals

(Austin Santor had four saves on Saturday against SUNY Delhi).

HERKIMER, NY – Scoring their lowest number of goals this season in their last regular season home game, the Herkimer Generals men’s soccer team defeated SUNY Delhi Saturday (10/11) afternoon 2-1 at home in regulation.

Herkimer (12-0-1, 7-0) averaged six goals per game at home before facing the Broncos, but despite outshooting their conference rival 16-to-1 in shots and 9-to-0 on corners the team managed only a goal in each half, snapping a streak which saw the team outscore their last five opponents 36-0.

Netting both goals for the Generals was sophomore MacIntyre Felton (Vestal, NY). It was the forward’s fourth multi-goal game of the season, racking up 10 goals in his last six games. The first came on an assist in the 14th from Rodrigo Guerra (Newburgh, NY). It tied the game at 1-1 after SUNY Delhi gave Herkimer a rare deficit in the 13th.

The second goal didn’t come until the 55th on an assist by Femi Kaffo (London, England). Felton headed the goal near the left post to break a tie which lasted 44 minutes. It was Kaffo’s sixth assist of the season.

In goal for Herkimer was Austin Santor (Chazy, NY). The sophomore allowed only his fourth goal of the season, snapping an eight-game streak where he didn’t allow a goal. Santor finished the game with four saves.

Herkimer’s next game is at Jefferson Community College. The Cannoneers are 5-4-3. They’ll host the Generals at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, October 15th.
