Ward, Nicosia, Rexford and Doolen make MVC All-Conference

HERKIMER, NY – The Herkimer Generals women’s soccer team had four players named to the 2014 Mountain Valley Conference All-Conference team. They were Teigha Ward (Ilion, NY), Danielle Nicosia (Oneonta, NY), Emily Rexford (Canton, NY) and Nicole Doolen (Ilion, NY).

Together the four players helped the Generals capture a conference championship, finishing the regular season 11-2, but most importantly going undefeated in the conference (6-0). Helping with the offensive fire power was Ward, Nicosia and Rexford. All three combined for 34 goals in 13 games. Ward led the team with 22, followed by Nicosia with nine and Rexford with three.

As for Doolen, the freshman helped Herkimer accumulate six shutouts, only allowing 10 goals to DIII competition during the regular season. From it the team managed an impressive seven-game win streak. The defender also added two goals offensively for a team that ranked sixth in the region with 42 goals.

“The girls have adjusted nicely to a new style of play, one of which I consider to be extremely complex,” said Head Women’s Soccer Coach Ryan Brooks-Newton. “The time they have put in for me paid off, not only having me recognize them but other coaches as well. Having four players, two from each side of the ball nominated All-Conference is exciting. I’m proud and look forward in growing with them!”
