Generals’ lose conference game on the road

(Freshman Alexandra Hardy led the Generals with 10 points on Wednesday).

UTICA, NY – After scoring a season-high against Clinton on Sunday, the Herkimer Generals women’s basketball team scored a season-low against Mohawk Valley on Wednesday (11/12), the seventh ranked team in the nation, losing 85-34.

Herkimer (1-2, 1-1) didn’t get their first field goal until there was 12 minutes left in the first half. Sophomore Shahadah Williams (Syracuse, NY) stole it at midcourt, scoring the basket herself from there to cut the deficit to 13 (15-2). Williams finished the game with nine points, four rebounds and four steals.

From there, the Hawks’ press caused in total 28 turnovers in 40 minutes of play, helping increase the lead to 24 at half, then 51 by the end of regulation.

Herkimer’s only player to score in double figures was freshman Alexandra Hardy (Kerhonkson, NY). The guard scored a season-high 10 points, but also grabbed one rebound.

The Generals next game is away against Hudson Valley Community College, finishing up four consecutive contests on the road. Play against the Vikings is on Saturday, November 15th with game time scheduled for 1 p.m.
