HERKIMER, NY – The Herkimer Generals men’s soccer team had seven players named to the 2014 Mountain Valley All-Conference Team. They were Ben Polk, Jermaine Windster, Rodrigo Guerra, Moulid Somow, Mitch White, Connor Shearer and Austin Santor.

Picking up most of the offensive slack for the Generals during the regular season was Polk (Banbury, UK), Windster (Rotterdam, Holland), Guerra (Newburgh, NY) and Somow (Utica, NY). The group combined for 51 goals in 17 games, going undefeated against DIII competition in the process (16-0-1). Polk led with 31 goals then Windster followed with 12, Guerra had five and Somow had three.

When taking assists into account, Somow led the team with 15, racking up nine in three games impressively. Windster and Guerra weren’t too far behind with 11 each, seeing Windster accumulate three assists as well in consecutive games and Guerra record three consecutive games with at least one assist twice.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Generals only allowed six goals in 17 games, outscoring opponents 89-to-6 en route to 11 total shutouts. Helping Herkimer to those figures were Shearer (Oneonta, NY), White (Leicester, England) and Santor (Chazy, NY). In 15 games White also helped the offense with two goals, edging out Shearer who finished with one goal and four assists. Getting back to the defense, Santor only allowed four goals all season, going 14-0-0, amassing 10 shutouts.

“Seven All-Conference players is amazing,” said Head Men’s Soccer Coach Pepe Aragon. “We had a great team this year and I’m happy that these specific student-athletes were recognized for it. The five seniors are receiving a lot of attention from several Division I, II and III schools throughout the country.”
