Women’s Bowling places second at home

HERKIMER, NY – Saving their best performance for their only hosted meet this season at Ilion State Bowling Center Wednesday (2/12), the Herkimer Generals women’s bowling team placed second overall, knocking down 2762 pins, breaking a streak of consecutive fourth place finishes in Mountain Valley Conference competition.

Leading the attack for the Generals was Selena Barber (Mayfield, NY), Ronnie Hines (South Otselic, NY), Alysha Buck (Syracuse, NY) and Destiny LeRoy (Sodus, NY). Each bowled over a 500 series for the Generals with Barber posting her first 600 series of the season, averaging 204 per game. It helped the sophomore jump to fifth overall in conference standings with 2209 pins totaled thus far in the season.

As for Hines, the freshman bowled a 597 series, which was also her best showing of the season, collecting a game-high 230 in her opener. Following Hines was Buck, averaging a 181 per game en route to a 543. Five pins behind Buck was sophomore LeRoy, totaling 538 (189, 157, 192).

Outside of the 500 club was Jena Soper (Harrisville, NY) and Ashley Salisbury (Sherrill, NY). Soper bowled a 443 (142, 146, 155) and Salisbury added 424 (119, 122, 183).

As for the men, they had three participants total over a 500 series. They were Marshall Sterling (Mohawk, NY), Trevor Marston (Georgetown, NY) and Stephen Cross (Ilion, NY). Sterling had his best performance of the season, averaging 195 per game which led to a 586 series. Marston had his third-best total in conference play, bowling a 584 and game-high 218. Cross bowled his best series, averaging 194 per game to a 583 series.

Rounding out the men on Wednesday was Ben Newman (Utica, NY), Philip Tanner (Deposit, NY) and Eric Arthur (Remsen, NY). Newman bowled a 495 (173, 131, 191), Tanner bowled a 457 (128, 185, 144) and Arthur bowled a 446 (155, 153, 138).

The Generals next conference match is in Troy, NY where Hudson Valley Community College will host the next conference match. Competition is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, February 17th.
