HERKIMER, NY - Despite a valiant effort by the Herkimer Generals women’s basketball team on Senior Day Saturday (2/21), in the varsity gym, the nationally ranked North Country Saints cruised to a 62-51 victory.

Herkimer (7-18, 4-12) played well throughout the first half, answering the Saints numerous times, doing everything they would need to stay competitive. Highlight plays came from Kristy Wallace (Frankfort, NY) and Eriel Jenkins (Detroit, MI). Both players where fouled in the act of shooting, Wallace from three point land and Jenkins in the paint after collecting an offensive board. Wallace was the only General to complete the play, but it didn’t matter as the team played well enough to be down by only five (25-20) at half. Wallace finished the game with 10 and Jenkins had six.

In the second half, the Generals played well until an 8-0 run made a four point (32-28) deficit 12 (40-28). From there, the Saints kept it at double digits until Herkimer answered in the final two minutes with three-point field goals by Wallace and Raven Griffin (Syracuse, NY). It cut a 17 point lead to nine by the end of regulation.

Saturday’s game against North Country ended the regular season for the Generals. They did not qualify for a sub-regional or regional playoff game.
