Get Involved with The General Newspaper

The General, Herkimer College’s online student newspaper has been the front-runner for student-driven campus coverage since 2020 and has continued to provide truthful, unbiased, and reliable news for the campus community. Through The General, our students have been able to learn more about our campus and the world around us.

From hard-hitting news to opinion pieces, our students are learning how to express themselves and be more conscientious of what is going on in the world while learning what it takes to run their own newspaper. Clubs like The General get students more involved on campus and help them establish friendships, leadership skills and a strong work ethic. Putting together an online newspaper is not easy work, but in the end, these students are using their skills to create something worthwhile.

Being a part of the staff at The General also introduces our students to interpersonal communication. Through the Question of the Week, the staff is getting to know their peers on a personal level and get the ability to socialize outside of the classroom. These segments allow our students the opportunity to meet new people on campus, all while developing their journalism skills. But The General isn’t just for students who want to become journalists. Students interested in photography, design or even creative writing can join the staff at The General. There is a place for everyone at Herkimer College and The General is no exception.

Current students of all majors are welcome to attend and learn about opportunities to contribute content and serve in available positions. Questions? Contact Advising Editor, Blake Pitcher, at pitcherba@herkimer.edu to RSVP.
