Herkimer Women secure # 4 seed in NJCAA National Championships

HERKIMER, NY – The Herkimer Generals women’s soccer team has earned the No. 4 seed for the 2019 NJCAA Division III National Championships, which start on Thursday, Nov 14 at Tompkins-Cortland Community College in Dryden, N.Y. The Generals will play in the second National Quarterfinal that day, taking on the No. 5 seed from Brookdale Community College in New Jersey at 1 p.m.

“We are thrilled to be going back to the National Championship Tournament for the third year in a row,” said General’s coach Jason Palkovic. “This is a very young and talented group with a couple of great sophomore captains in Kristen Purcell and Emily LeBlanc. They all have worked very hard for this all season, and this is where it will hopefully pay off. We would like to thank all the family, friends, and staff that have supported us all year!”

The Generals are coming off Sunday afternoon’s 2-1 win at home over SUNY Broome in the Region IIIB Championship. The win lifted Herkimer’s record on the year to 16-1-0. This will be the third straight year that the Generals have reached the National Tournament under Palkovic. In 2017, the team lost in the National Title game in overtime before going 1-1 and finishing 5th at the 2018 championships.
