'Banana has Legs' by Herkimer College student Leeanna Bala is one of the many pieces on display as part of the exhibition featuring local artists on and off campus.

Herkimer College kicked off its Fall Fest & Alumni weekend on Friday, Sept. 29, with an opening reception of the Makers of the Mohawk Valley art exhibition at the Cogar Gallery.

Makers of the Mohawk Valley debuted in the fall of 2022 as a celebration of the artists, crafters, and other creatives living and working in the Mohawk Valley region. This year’s showcase of talent includes paintings, photography, and mixed media pieces by community members and the College community including Herkimer College Studio Art A.S. major, Leeanna Bala, as well as alumni and staff.

According to Justin Como, Herkimer College associate professor of studio art and exhibit coordinator, the goal of the exhibit is to shine a light on the diverse richness of makers in Herkimer, Oneida, and surrounding counties.

Many of the pieces are available for purchase and listed at the Gallery. Interested patrons are asked to contact Como at cuomojm@herkimer.edu. Makers in the Mohawk Valley is open until Nov. 10. The Cogar Gallery is located in the Robert McLaughlin College Center (RMCC) and is free and open to the public, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday when the College is open.
