Notice Regarding Stolen Data
SunGard Higher Education, a software company that has provided IT services to
Herkimer County Community College and the State University of New York for a number
of years, notified SUNY that a laptop belonging to one of their consultants was stolen
and has not been recovered. The laptop was protected with a strong password to access
the operating system. While identity theft does not appear to be the motive behind the
incident, we regard all information security matters very seriously and are working
with SunGard Higher Education to take necessary steps to protect our students and constituents.
HCCC's Information Services department has analyzed and verified the data, and the College is
notifying by mail all those who may be affected. SunGard will offer affected individuals a full
two years of free credit monitoring service through Triple AlertSM.
If you received a notification letter from HCCC, it includes a PIN--not a credit monitoring activation code as described in the letter. To get your credit monitoring activation code, please call the Sungard information center at 866-520-2408, give the representative your PIN, and they will give you a credit monitoring activation code as well as helpful step-by-step instructions.
For additional information, please see the SunGard website at www.sungardhe.com/laptoptheft or call toll-free (866) 520-2408.
